Big Board - An electronic noticeboard where users can download media via Bluetooth at no cost. "People in the developing world have cellular handsets but very little money. If you wanted to get information to these people, they are highly unlikely to pay the GPRS/3G costs to access it. In this project we developed an electronic notice board where the user can download media via Bluetooth (no cost). This solution requires no client software and does not need the user to pair their device with the screen, nor does the screen broadcast spam."

The Wazimba Youth Foundation created a system where all the advantages of mobile phones and Bluetooth are taken. They use this technology to pass information and create a social network in Kenya. The foundation has experimentated with mobiles to pass info, such as video clips, infos on the prices of products, etc. With the bluetooth technology and with the help of transmittors, people can get info on their phones – this is really how the networking started.

The Africa Rice Center has developed various videos, which provide technics and tips to cultivate rice. The videos are shared informally through CDs. In Nigeria farmers have even bought a laptop only for the purpose to watch the videos. In this case they doubled their harvest.
